Sir JOHN CRAMER (BENNELONG, NEW SOUTH WALES) - My question is directed to the Treasurer. I refer to the recent arrangement whereby a charge is made by all banks on the unused amounts of overdrafts over a certain amount. I understand that this arrangement does not affect Government instrumentalities. Can the Treasurer tell me whether terminating and permanent building societies are liable to this extra charge? The Treasurer will appreciate, I am sure, that although building societies are not under Government control, they are co-operative societies operating under strict Government regulations.
