Mr BIRRELL (PORT ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - Has the attention of the Minister for Labour and National Service been drawn to a report in today's " Australian " of a Sydney research survey into automation which suggests that some 400,000 workers will be displaced or affected by automation in Australian within the next 5 to 10 years? Will the Minister arrange to have the survey investigated by officers of his Department, and if the conclusions reached by the research group prove in any way reliable will he, as a first step, take immediate action to set up within his Department a permanent automation committee on the lines suggested by the Australian Council of Trade Unions?
