Mr DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Lucock (LYNE, NEW SOUTH WALES) - Order! I point out to the honorable member for Parkes that his remarks are slightly irrelevant to the matter before the House.

Mr HUGHES - Naturally, Sir, I bow to your ruling and in deference to it I leave the point where I have put it. It would be -very interesting to hear from the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, my honorable and learned friend, in this debate, but apparently the House is to be deprived of the opportunity.

Mr Whitlam - Mr. Deputy Speaker, may I have your leave to make a statement on the point just raised by the honorable member for Parkes?
