Mr BEATON (BENDIGO, VICTORIA) - My question is directed to the Treasurer, who has referred on two occasions recently to the need for decentralization of industry. I refer in particular to his statement that the Government's credit squeeze was in some measure aimed at bringing about decetralization. Is it not a fact that country industries have suffered disastrously from the Government's economic measures, and that the drift of population to the capital cities has been accentuated? Will he recognize the urgent need of country communities by directing the trading banks to provide sufficient credit for industries and businesses in country towns to maintain their present level of employment? Will he also consider the setting up of a committee of inquiry to investigate means by which the Commonwealth can achieve a policy of real decentralization?
