Sir GARFIELD BARWICK (Parramatta) (Attorney-General) . - This act, as a federal law, broadly is to displace the State laws on the subject and therefore it is necessary, in clause 6, to which T called attention previously, to provide specially that the act will not push aside the State provisions as to the need for consent to marriage of aboriginals, and so on. On the question as to whether or not the absence of consent in a particular case makes the marriage void, 1 think you may turn partly to the provisions in the Matrimonial Causes Act and partly to the State provisions.
