Mr FREETH - lt is true that from time to time members of the defence staffs were shown plans of houses and given an indication of the rents that they would be asked to pay, just as any tenant, when he contemplates occupancy of a house, is given an indication of the rent. But where a person is a weekly tenant he occupies the house on a weekly tenancy basis which enables the landlord, whether a private person or the Government, to increase the rent at relatively short notice. No undertaking was given to any of these transferees that the rents were fixed in perpetuum.
