Mr McIVOR (GELLIBRAND, VICTORIA) - I preface a question to the Attorney-General by informing him that last year in this House I asked the Prime Minister whether he would undertake to go into the activities of vending machine companies throughout Australia. The reply that I received was not reassuring. I therefore ask the AttorneyGeneral, in view of the recent disclosures, whether there are any federal laws under which people can be protected from these unscrupulous financial conspiracies. If the answer is in the negative, will the Government bring down legislation designed to prevent these frauds? Further, will the Government in conjunction with the States institute a Commonwealth inquiry into the operations of these companies throughout Australia?
