Mr LUCOCK (Lyne) - May I thank the House for the honour it has accorded to me in electing me to the position of Chairman of Committees. I also thank those who have offered their congratulations and good wishes to me. Like other honorable members, I regret that the situation arose which necessitated the retirement of the honorable member for Gippsland (Mr. Bowden) from this office. He is a man who, it has been rightly said, had the affection and respect of members on both sides of the House, and I would pay my tribute to him for the assistance he has given me and the kindness he has shown me during my term of office as Temporary Chairman. All I say is that I will do the best I can to maintain the highest and best traditions of this office and to maintain the high standard of impartiality that has been shown by my predecessors.
