Mr Daly y asked the Treasurer, upon notice -

1.   What amount of sales tax was collected in each year from 1949-50 to 1959-60, inclusive?

2.   What amount of (a) direct and (b) indirect taxation was collected per head of population in each of these years?

2.   The amounts of (a) direct and (b) indirect taxation collected per head of population in each of these years are shown in the following table: -

 

(a)   Includes revenue from income tax and social services contribution, wool deductions, pay-roll tax, land tax, estate duty, gift duty and gold tax.

(b)   Includes revenue from customs duty, excise duty, sales tax and entertainment tax.
