Consideration resumed from 30th November (vide page 3400), on motion by Mr. Osborne -

That the Schedule to the Customs Tariff (New Zealand Preference) 1933-1960, as proposed to be amended by Customs Tariff (New Zealand Preference) Proposals, be further amended as set out in the Schedule to these proposals . . . (vide page 3400).

Mr Osborne - The committee now has an opportunity to debate the customs tariff resolutions proposed in this committee on behalf of my colleague, the Minister for Customs and Excise (Senator Henty), on 27th October and 30th November. Assuming that the proposals are accepted by the committee, I will seek leave at the conclusion of the debate to introduce the two bills necessary to amend the schedules to the Customs Tariff Act and the Customs Tariff (New Zealand Preference) Act to give legislative effect to the tariff changes concerned. I suggest that it would be convenient to take all the proposals together; that is to say, Customs Tariff Proposals Nos. 23 to 26 and Customs Tariff (New Zealand Preference) Proposals Nos. 6 and 7.

Motions - by leave - taken together.
