Mr KEARNEY (CUNNINGHAM, NEW SOUTH WALES) - My question, which is addressed to the Minister for Health. refers to the treatment of alcoholism as a disease and not as a form of delinquency. I ask the Minister whether it is a fact that tests are being conducted in Australia to prove the efficacy of a new drug named librium, believed to have been developed in Switzerland. Can the Minister affirm that rather distinctive success has been claimed for this drug both in America and the United Kingdom as an effective cure for alcoholics? Will he say whether this drug will be generally available in Australia in the near future, and will he take steps to have it included in the list of free drugs under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Act?
