Mr FREETH (FORREST, WESTERN AUSTRALIA) (Minister for the Interior) - I am aware that a trench has been dug in the place mentioned for the purpose of some public work in the city of Canberra. I would remind the honorable member that there is a good deal of activity in that direction going on all over Canberra, and not merely between Parliament House and the Hotel Canberra, or between Parliament House and the Hotel Kurrajong. I would commend to the honorable gentleman's interest some of the other areas of this National Capital, because it has been said, somewhat cynically, by some people in the Department of Works that, so long as they keep the footpaths between the Hotel Canberra and Parliament House and the Hotel Kurrajong and Parliament House in order, they need not fear anything from this Parliament. I hope that that is not the case. Anyway, I will have a look at the work that the honorable member mentions and see whether anything can be done.
