Clause 14 -

Section seventeen of the Principal Act is amended -

(a)   by omitting from sub-section (1.) the words " during the Governor-General's pleasure in a reformatory prison " and inserting in their stead the words " in prison during the pleasure of the Governor-General "; and

(b)   by omitting sub-sections (3.) and (4.) and inserting in their stead the following sub-section: - " (3.) Forthe purposes of this section, ' the Governor-General ' means the Governor-General of the Commonwealth, or the person for the time being administering the government of the Commonwealth, acting with the advice of the Attorney-General.".

Section proposed to be amended -

17.   - (1.) Where a person convicted of an indictable offence against the law of the Commonwealth, has been previously convicted on at least two occasions of indictable offences against the law of the Commonwealth, or of a State, or of a Territory, the Court before which he is convicted may declare that he is a habitual criminal, and may direct, as part of his sentence, that on the expiration of the term of imprisonment then imposed upon him, he be detained during the Governor-General's pleasure in a reformatory prison-.
