Mr FREETH (Forrest) (Minister for the Interior and Minister for Works) . - For the same reasons as I gave in regard to the previous amendment, it would not be desirable to provide, in statutory form, a requirement that a report from a committee which may or may not exist in future should be tabled along with the ministerial explanation. There is also, I think, a stronger reason than that. The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Australian Capital Territory, being composed of private members of the Parliament, should assert its own views. Therefore, I believe that there would not be any value in having in the bill a clause of the nature suggested.

Mr J R FRASER - I wanted an exchange of views. Now, in view of the defeat of the previous amendment, I ask for leave to withdraw this amendment.

Amendment - by leave - withdrawn.
