Mr DAVIDSON - I have heard that some action along the lines mentioned by the honorable member is being taken. As I understand it, the action is only exploratory as yet, and the service is not general in its application. Of course, in Australia we provide a radio-telephone service to a number of instrumentalities, both private and public. No consideration has yet been given to extending that service to ordinary telephone subscribers. The department has ahead of it a very great volume of work of a greater priority than a radio-telephone service and, therefore, such a delevopment cannot be expected within the foreseeable future.
