Mr WHITLAM (WERRIWA, NEW SOUTH WALES) - My question is addressed to the Minister for Trade. At the time of our reaching the trade agreement with Japan the right honorable gentleman said that the Government had in mind entering discussions with the Japanese Government at an appropriate time before July, 1960, concerning the application of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade between the two countries. I ask him for a succinct statement as to whether Australian representatives broached this subject with the Japanese Government at the meeting of the Gatt countries in Tokyo last month and, if not, whether he still intends to discuss the subject before next July?
