Mr WARD (EAST SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES) - My question is directed to the Minister for Trade. I desire to know whether it is a fact that the importation of rayon has increased in quantity by 2,600 per cent., comparing the estimated imports for the current year with those in 1950-51, the year preceding the introduction of import licensing. Also is it a fact that in the same period the importation of manmade fibres other than rayon has increased by 1.400 per cent? If so, how does the Minister explain such extraordinary increases in these imports in a period when import restrictions are in existence? Will he state what, to his knowledge, has been the effect upon Australian industry and employment?
