Mr DUTHIE (WILMOT, TASMANIA) - Is the PostmasterGeneral aware that in the Australian Broadcasting Commission's news items covering the manhunt for Kevin Simmonds, Simmonds has been referred to, from the time of his escape, as an " escaped convict " rather than an " escapee ", as the press has referred to him? There is a strong objection by many people, including myself, to the word " convict " being applied in the twentieth century to Simmonds or any other inhabitant of, or escapee from, our prisons. Will the PostmasterGeneral take this matter up with the A.B.C. with a view to excising this historically objectionable word from its news items?
