Mr NELSON (NORTHERN TERRITORY, NORTHERN TERRITORY) - My question, which is addressed to the Prime Minister, arises from a decision by the Commonwealth Government to guarantee the funds necessary to rehabilitate the Mount Isa to Townsville railway. When making this decision, was consideration given to extending the line across the Northern Territory as a major contribution to the development of that part of Australia, which is severely restricted in its progress because of its isolation and lack of a rail link with the rest of Australia? If this proposal was not considered, were any other proposals considered when taking this decision?
