Mr CAIRNS (YARRA, VICTORIA) - I direct a question to the Deputy Prime Minister. Last week the right honorable gentleman said in answer to a question by the honorable member for East Sydney that the statement by the Prime Minister advocating " a fully rearmed Japan " had been made on behalf of the Government. I ask the right honorable gentleman whether the Government considers that to be " fully rearmed " Japan would need nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them. In view of discussions in the Japanese Diet a few days ago on the question whether it would be constitutional for Japan to acquire nuclear weapons, does the Australian Government favour the acquisition by Japan of such weapons?
