Mr DOWNER (ANGAS, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) - Can the Minister for External Affairs enlighten the House on recent negotiations with Egypt for the management of the Suez Canal? Can the Minister say whether there is any truth in the much publicized suggestion that the British Government is about to advise British shipping to use the Suez Canal and pay canal dues, under protest, to Egypt? Does the right honorable gentleman consider that, in the long run, expediency is preferable to principle in our dealings with President Nasser?
