Mr BEALE - The honorable member has always shown a very great interest in sulphuric acid and pyrites production in Australia. I welcome the question for this reason: Immediately the Government made the decision to which he has referred, the sulphuric acid committee, an interdepartmental committee which the chairman of the Tariff Board attends, prepared terms of reference for the Tariff Board. Of course, that came to the knowledge of the chairman of the Tariff Board because he was present at the meeting. So the matter is in train. The chairman of the Tariff Board has indicated that he cannot say when his own findings will come forward.

That is understandable, because the board is a very busy body with a great deal of work to do, but as soon as the recommendations come forward they will be considered by the Government. My recollection is that the Government's decision was to ask the Tariff Board to determine an appropriate level of a bounty with respect to an extended period of the act. The act does not expire until 1959, but immediately we get the recommendations of the Tariff Board the Government will consider them.

Mr Calwell - But the Government will not do anything about it.

Mr BEALE - We have been doing a great deal about it.
