Mr Webb b asked the Postmaster-General, upon notice -

1.   What is the number of outstanding applications for telephones in Western Australia?

2.   What steps are being taken to satisfy this demand?

Mr Davidson - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

l.   5.364.

2.   Exchange equipment and cable relief plans have been prepared by the department to meet arrears of telephone applications and to cater for future development. Each of the relief works will be expedited as much as possible with due regard to the funds, materials and man-power available to the department.
