Mr Whitlam m asked the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice -

1.   On what dates were contracts last let for the extension or erection of telephone exchange buildings at Carramar, Liverpool and Pendle Hill?

2.   On these dates how many unsatisfied telephone applications were there in the respective exchange areas?

3.   How many telephone services were the nev, buildings expected to provide?

4.   When were the buildings completed or when are they expected to be completed?

5.   How many unsatisfied telephone applications were there at Ihe time of completion, and how many are there at the present time?


Mr Davidson - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   Carramar, 18th August, 1955; Liverpool, 20th February, 1952; Pendle Hill, 26th June, 1939.

2.   Carramar, 799; Liverpool, 289; Pendle Hill, nil.

3.   Carramar, 10,000 lines ultimate capacity. Liverpool, 4,700 lines ultimate capacity; Pendle Hill, 3,600 lines ultimate capacity.
