Mr Duthie e asked the Minister for Health, upon notice -

1.   Has information arrived from the United Kingdom concerning the new wonder drug called deltacortril now released to doctors in treatment of arthritis?

2.   When can supplies be expected in Australia?

3.   What will it cost, and how will it be distributed?


Dr DONALD CAMERON (OXLEY, QUEENSLAND) - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   Yes.

2.   Deltacortril, and several other proprietary brands of this substance, are available in Australia.

3.   Twenty tablets cost approximately 82s. 6d. It is available through chemists on the prescription of a medical practitioner. It is also available as a benefit under the National Health Act, when required for the treatment of certain specified conditions.

Pay-roll Tax.


Mr Whitlam m asked the Treasurer, upon notice -

Which Commonwealth boards, commissions, authorities, corporations, or like instrumentalities, pay pay-roll tax?


Sir Arthur Fadden - The answer to the honorable member's question is as follows: -

The Pay-roll Tax Assessment Act requires payment of tax by any public authority constituted under any act or under any law in force in a territory of the Commonwealth the wages paid by which are not paid out of the Consolidated Revenue Fund. The secrecy provisions of the act do not permit disclosure of the names of employers who are liable to pay pay-roll tax.
