Mr Ward d asked the Prime Minister, upon notice -

1.   Did the security officer who was stated by the Acting Prime Minister and the Prime Minister, respectively, in answers of the 12th and 20th September to questions asked by me, to have given assistance to Mr. and Mrs. Petrov in writing " Empire of Fear ", but the cost of whose assistance it was impossible to determine, visit Canberra in 1955?

2.   Did his visit coincide with a conference of the Moral Rearmament Movement which was held in Canberra in the same year?

3.   Did the officer attend this conference?

4.   If so, did he attend in a private or official capacity?

Mr Menzies - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: - 1 to 4. The officer to whom the honorable member refers did attend a gathering of people interested in Moral Rearmament in Canberra during 1955. It was not a Moral Rearmament Conference, but a film evening. Naturally, the officer concerned attended in a private capacity.
