Mr Bryant t asked the Minister for Defence Production, upon notice -

1.   Have any efforts beenmade to sell to overseas countries Canberra and Sabre aircraft produced by the Government aircraft factory?

2.   Has the New Zealand Government approached the Commonwealth Government with a view to the purchase of these types of aircraft?

3.   If so, what progress has been made with the negotiations, and when will the programme commence?

4.   If there has been no approach from New Zealand, will the Government attempt to obtain overseas orders for these aircraft in order to help preserve the aircraft manufacturing industry and prevent unemployment and the permanent loss to the industry of skilled tradesmen?

Mr Beale - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   Action has been taken to interest overseas countries in the purchase of Australian-made aircraft generally.

2.   No.
