Mr ROBERTON - I have cause to have vivid recollections of the case mentioned by the honorable member for Hunter. Under the Social Services Act I have certain discretionary powers with regard to the granting of social services benefits to aliens. As is customary in such cases, I carried out the most exhaustive examination into the details of the case cited by the honorable member. But the applicant himself had some doubt as to when and where he was born. Until those questions are resolved, it is very difficult for me as Minister for Social Services to exercise discretion in this matter.
