Mr MORGAN (REID, NEW SOUTH WALES) - I address a question to the Minister for Social Services. Has the Minister taken any steps, as envisaged by him when appointed to the Ministry, to appoint a committee to consider the question of the employment of elderly people of pensionable age? If so, who are the members of the committee and what progress, if any, has it made? Also, can the Minister say who is responsible for the policy, which apparently is now adopted by the Department of Social Services, as is indicated by cases coming under my notice in my electorate, of depriving invalids with permanent long-standing disabilities of their pensions on the ground that they are fit for work, despite the fact that no suitable employment is available for them? Can the Minister say whether this policy is based on humanitarian or financial grounds?
