Mr Luchetti i asked the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice -

1.   What are the ramifications of the Australian Broadcasting Commission's organization overseas for the engagement of artists for concert and broadcast purposes?

2.   In which countries and cities, and at what cost, have officers been appointed or agencies established?

3.   What are the names of the officers or agents of the commission whose duties require them to travel overseas for the engagement of artists?

4.   What is the cost of each of these journeys?

Mr Davidson - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   The Australian Broadcasting Commission has offices in London and New York which carry out a wide variety of duties of which negotiations with artists who are being considered for concert tours is only one.

2.   See answer to question 1. It is not practicable to assess the cost of negotiating with artists as the officers concerned carry out many other functions.

3.   It is not part of the specific duties of any member of the Australian Broadcasting Commission's staff in Australia to travel overseas for the engagement of artists.

4.   See above.
