Mr HOLT (Fawkner) (1:17 AM) .I agree that there is some ambiguity in the clause as drawn. It reads " within six months after discharge from the forces, or after the 22nd March ". It is not clear whether it means six months after the 22nd March.

Mr Holloway - It means the date of the beginning of the scheme. It could not be put further back than that.

Mr HOLT - Does the Minister interpret the clause to mean six months after discharge or six months after the 22nd March ?

Mr Holloway - Six months from the 22nd March or six months from the date of discharge.

Mr HOLT - The Minister has promised to discuss the matter with members of the committee, and to direct that, in special circumstances, the time provided may be extended. On the strength of that assurance I shall not press the amendment to a division.

Amendment negatived.
