Mr DEDMAN (Corio) (Minister for Post-war Reconstruction and Minister in charge of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) . - The Government cannot accept the amendment. The Prime Minister (Mr. Chifley) has made it perfectly clear that the board shall be an independent authority. In view of that assurance, I do not consider that it is necessary to amend the clause in a manner that may circumscribe or limit the Government's choice of members of the board.
