Mr CALWELL (Melbourne) (Minister for Immigration and Minister for Information) . - This bill originated in the House of Representatives, and passed on the 11th July, 1946. It was presented to the Senate, and there passed on the 24th July, 1946. During the debate in. the House of Representatives, suggesttions were made that certain provisionsconcerning officers of the commission be included in the bill itself, rather than in regulations under the act. The Government gave consideration to the matter and decided to include the provisions in the bill, as had been suggested. The provisions were embodied as Government amendments to the bill in the Senate, and the bill, with these amendments, passed the Senate without other alteration. I move -

That the amendment be agreed to.

Question resolved in the affirmative.

Clause 5 (Definitions).

Senate's Amendment No.2. - After the definition of " Commissioner " insert the following definition: - "' officer 'means officer of the Commission; "

Clause 17 (Delegation of powers by Commission).

Senate's Amendment No.3. -After clause 17 insert the following heading: - "Division1a. - The Service of the Commission.".
