Mr McEWEN (INDI, VICTORIA) - I understand that negotiations are proceeding between the Australian Government and the Government of the United Kingdom in relation to the renewal of the contract for the sale of Australian meat to Great Britain for a further period at a new scale of prices. Will the Minister for Commerce and Agriculture, at the earliest possible moment, release details of the new contract prices and indicate the date upon which they are to come into effect? I am prompted to ask this question because the new level of values will have a distinct bearing on the value of livestock, particularly of breeding stock, in the Australian markets. The Minister will appreciate the fact that it would be inadvisable for information on this matter to leak out prematurely, either from United Kingdom or Australian sources, and that all people interested in the live stock industry should have an equal opportunity to know at the earliest moment what level of prices is to prevail.
