Mr WARD - There is no truth in the report that certain demands were' submitted to. me by the natives of New Guinea. I have had inquiries made, and have learned that the natives were greatly agitated because they had come to know of a speech made by the Leader of the Opposition to the National . Council of Women recently, in which it was suggested that there was to be a change of government in this country. For that reason the natives had decided to stop work. I assured them that there was no possibility of this Government being disturbed, and they have decided to work on.
