Mr SPENDER (WARRINGAH, NEW SOUTH WALES) - Will the Minister for External Territories inform the House what investigations have been made by his department of the suitability of timbers from New Guinea and other mandated territories for building purposes in Australia? If such timbers have been found to be suitable to Australian requirements, what steps have been taken or are contemplated to make them available in Australia as quickly as possible?


Mr WARD - A complete survey of the timber resources of the external territories is at present being -made by Mr. McAdam. As early as practicable, a statement will be made as to these resources . and the plans the Government has in mind for putting them to appropriate use.
