Mr DRAKEFORD (MARIBYRNONG, VICTORIA) (Minister for Air) - During the absence of the honorable member for Balaclava (Mr. White),. I made a brief statement about the interim Air Force a week ago, when I said that the matter was receiving consideration. No decision has been reached, but the matter is being investigated in relation to other proposed defence developments, so that Australia will have a balanced force.

Mr White - Have sufficient enlistments been received?

Mr DRAKEFORD - As no decision has yet. been reached regarding the size of the force, it is impossible to say whether sufficient enlistments have been received. Many men have enlisted, and we hope that more will do so. We shall announce as soon as possible the number which it is proposed to enlist, and upon that will depend the number of permanent commissions.
