Mr White e asked the Acting Minister for Trade and Customs, upon notice -

1.   In view of the declared policy of the Government to assist in the establishment of motor car manufacture in Australia and its interest in the development of the airlines of Australia, is it a fact that an engine of a new typehas been invented byan Australian, Mr. H. S. McLaren?

3.   Is it a fact that the invention has been reported upon favorably by several government bodies?

4.   Is it a fact that a large experimental engine of the McLaren typehas been constructed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to test its suitability for aircraft and that the preliminary tests compared most favorably with orthodox engines?

5.   Will he make available reports on this engine made by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research at the request of the Defence authorities and the Inventions Board, also reports by the Inventions Board and the Panel of Automotive Engineers (the latter report having been prepared at the request of the Defence. Department), and any other reports which may be available in government departments ?

0.   Will he assist further in bringing this Australian engine into practical use in the manufacture of all-Australian motor cars so that manufacturers will not bo dependent on the importation of engines from abroad as some of them have indicated?
