Mr HOLT (Fawkner) .- The Treasurer (Mr. Chifley) has given the assurance that if returns that do not include a claim for deduction in respect of amounts spent on air raids precautions have already been lodged, the matter may be re-opened. I have made inquiries from departmental officers, and from them I understand that special action will not be taken to communicate individually with taxpayers in order to bring to their notice the existence of this right, although I believe that wide publicity will be given to the fact that it is open to them. Will the Treasurer bear that in mind; because unquestionably many thousands of taxpayers may not be made aware in the ordinary course that it is open to them to lodge a fresh return including such deductions, and in many instances substantial sums may be involved?
