Mr Jolly y asked the Treasurer, upon notice -

1.   What is the present amount of the Australian notes issued?

2.   Will he supply particulars of the reserve held by the Note Issue Department as prescribed by the act?


Mr Chifley - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows: -

1.   The Australian notes in circulation on the 21st September, 1942, totalled £ 111,106,368.

2.   The reserve held by the Note Issue Department in gold and English sterling as prescribed by the act amounted to £29,110,212 12s. 7a.
