Mr BEASLEY - The Department of Supply agreed to purchase 6,000 tons of blue peas next year at 15s, a bushel. That is the only undertaking which, to my knowledge, has been given.

Mr Guy - A statement was published t hat the Minister for Commerce had announced that the whole crop would be purchased by the Commonwealth.

Mr BEASLEY - Although the Commonwealth Government has agreed to buy 6,000 tons, that decision should not be interpreted as implying that it wishes the crop to be restricted to that quantity. The honorable gentleman will agree with me that Australia must produce as much food as possible.
