Mr BEASLEY - The allocation of shipping space is a matter for the Department of Commerce, which controls navigation. I have no information regarding the shipment of mutton to Western Australia, but I was aware that 1,000 tons of beef were to be shipped to that State in order to supply troops stationed there. That was the reason given to me.

Mr Marwick - The consignment did not consist entirely of beef; there was a lot of mutton in it.

Mr BEASLEY - I shall make inquiries regarding the actual quantities sent.

Mr Marwick - And to whom it was consigned ?

Mr BEASLEY - The Department of Supply is working in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture in Western Australia. A committee has been set up to handle such matters, and I understand that this committee had charge of the transaction.
