Mr FORDE - When the matter was brought to my notice, I immediately called for a report, but to date it has not been submitted to me. The treatment which should be meted out to prisoners of war is prescribed in the Hague Convention. It is the policy of Australia and, indeed, of all members of the British Empire, to observe the provisions of that international convention. Regarding the accusations about the treatment of Australian prisoners of war in North Africa, I hope to be able to supply to the honorable member a reply during the day.
