Sir Charles Marr asked the Minister representing the Minister for the Interior, upon notice -

1.   In connexion with the erection of the new building in Canberra for the Patents Branch, was the proposal first inquired into by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works?

2.   Will the Government consider the question of referring to the Public Works Committee all proposed works in excess of £25,000?

Mr Perkins (EDEN-MONARO, NEW SOUTH WALES) (Minister without portfolio administering External Territories) - The Minister for the Interior has supplied the following answers to the honorable member's questions : -

1.   No. The decision to erect this building was made before the Public Works Committee was reconstituted.

2.   Action will be taken in accordance with the Public Works Committee Act.
