Mr SPEAKER - If any honorable member requires assistance of this kind, I shall certainly give consideration to any request that he may make. But the mere placing of microphones in the chamber will not assist an honorable member unless he is equipped with apparatus such as that used by the Attorney-General.

Mr McEWEN (INDI, VICTORIA) - I understand that there is a loud speaker in the Prime Minister's room, and I desire to know whether the microphones in this chamber operate in such a way that private conversations between members in front of the microphones can be heard in the Prime Minister's room ?

Mr SPEAKER - The instruments in this chamber are not connected in any way with the Prime Minister's room, and it is wrong to suppose that they convey any sounds to that quarter.
