Mr JOHN LAWSON (MACQUARIE, NEW SOUTH WALES) - An investigation has already been undertaken by the department in connexion with this matter. Inquiries so far have revealed that during 1937-3S the quantity of table margarine consumed in New South Wales was 4,000,000 lb., and in Victoria, 970,000 lb. During the same period the quantity of butter produced in New South Wales totalled 120,000,000 lb., and in Victoria, 141,000,000 lb. These figures' show that actually the quantity of table margarine consumed in Australia is small when compared with the consumption of butter. When the investigation that is being undertaken by the department has been completed the Government will give the matter further consideration.
