Mr Curtin n asked the Minister for Civil Aviation, upon notice -

1.   Will he supply a statement showing the number of aircraft companies operating in Australia, the routes traversed, and the annual subsidy granted to each company?

2.   Are these companies amalgamated in any way?

3.   Who are the directors of the respective companies ?


Mr Fairbairn - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows

1.   The attached schedules show the companies that are operating regular services in Australia to-day, the routes traversed and the subsidies being paid by the Commonwealth Government.

 

 

2.   This is not known, but it is understood that Australian National Airways Proprietary Limited hold a considerable number of shares of Airlines of Australia Limited.

3.   The information is not available, but will be obtained and submitted as soon as possible.


Mr Curtin n asked the Minister for Civil Aviation", upon notice -

1.   Do all aviation companies receive a rebate on fuel tax'

2.   If not, what companies receive such a rebate ?


Mr Fairbairn - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows : -

1.   No.

2.   Qantas Empire Airways, under the terms of its agreement with the Commonwealth for the operation of the Singapore-Sydney section of the empire air service, is granted a refund of customs duties on petrol used by its flying boats on the service.
