Mr Forde e asked the PostmasterGeneral, upon notice -

1.   Docs the term of appointment of members of the Australian Broadcasting Commission expire on the 30th June next?

2.   Does the Government propose to bring down a bill this session to deal with national broadcasting?

3.   If not, does the Government propose to extend the term of the present commissioners? If so, for what period?

4.   In view of the great importance of broadcasting to Australia, will he give the House an undertaking that, before this session ends, an opportunity will be given to honorable members to discuss the whole question?


Mr Harrison - The answers to the honorable member's questions are as follows : -

1.   Yes. 2, 3 and 4. The whole question of broadcasting is at present under consideration and Parliament will be notified of the Government's decision as soon as practicable.
