Mr GREGORY - Has any examination been made, and if not, will an examination be made, into the possibility of establishing a group settlement in the Victoria River country adjacent to Wyndham ? I understand that proposals have been made that a large amount of money should be made available for the establishment of such a settlement in that area.

Mr McEWEN - Proposals of the kind mentioned by the honorable member have been made to the Government. They have been considered, but the Government has come to the conclusion that there is no evidence to justify the belief that any major land settlement scheme could be undertaken in that particular district.
