Mr DRAKEFORD (Maribyrnong) (3:29 AM) . - On Friday last, I raised the subject of leave due to temporary clerks in the Commonwealth Public Service, and on that occasion, I spoke under a misapprehension when comparing them with the staff employed at Parliament House. I said that temporary clerks in the Public Service in Canberra did not receive recognition for holidays due to them when their employment was terminated. That part is correct. I mentioned, however, that similar conditions existed in connexion with the parliamentary staff; when their temporary service terminated, they were not given recognition in regard to holidays. I now learn that the position in regard to the parliamentary staff has been remedied, and I feel that I must make acknowledgement of that fact and correct my previous statement. I hope that the action which has been taken in relation to the parliamentary staff will be considered by the Minister for the Interior (Mr. McEwen) in dealing with these other employees. I believe that the matter couldbe remedied easily without much cost to the department.
